If people didn't get value out of it, why would they spend so much time on it? I would posit that they're perceiving tremendous value from their time spent there.

He's a hockey fan. I do believe that he would, if pressed, admit some value from entertainment. I think the (valid) point he's trying to make is that FB profits from the human tendency to waste time.

1/ Agreed. Facebook has some value. The WhatsApp fiasco really changed my perspective on Zuck. Greed has gotten the best of him (and Sandberg). FB has become a monster that is beyond controllable. We are entering unprecedented times.

It's not unlike someone who bakes delicious chocolate chip cookies opening a bakery that grows explosively. Years later they reflect on what they've built and realize they're supplying delicious treats and smiles but also obesity and diabetes. Next steps aren't obvious.

I agree with one caveat: those cookies are laced with crack and we are just now realizing that.
