No more gas? But you don't drive right?
-
-
-
I live in San Ramon; I drive every day
-
Then that's the justification? If you have solar on your house that = free gas?
-
Or I could drive a $5,000 car and pay for gas
-
You were asking for a justification...

In the past year, you've increased your students' incomes by >$1m. You deserve to treat yourself to something nice. Bonus: if you keep your cars for many years and will replace your current car within a few years, might as well get the full tax credit.
-
My equity in Lambda is treating me nice enough that I can’t complain
-
Well then this is just a little advance on that equity ;)

I share your frugality— traded in a 2000 Ford Focus for a Model X. The fact that u are statistically less likely to be injured in a Tesla vs any other car (per NHTSA) made me ask, “How much would I pay to keep my kids safe in an accident?” Conclusion: This is what money is FOR.

Have you test drove one yet?

Hard to go from a 5k car to a 54k car. When they release the 35k version I bet you'll be a lot more willing or can wait to get that 2-3 years used for even cheaper. Or if they advance the software stack even further you might hit a breaking point.

I wanted one until I read the book Autonomy. Eye opening on Tesla’s marketing of autopilot (and unsafe nature of it / company’s cavalier approach.)
-
Don't you think it would be better to ask owners about Autopillot rather than a book ?

-
Maybe but the book basically lays out how they marketed it as autonomous knowing full well it needs full attention of driver.
-
Everytime you turn it on it gives you a warning to hold wheel and be prepared to take control at all times. I don't know how a book can say something else. Either way I would suggest you try it, you know many people hate Tesla and will write books against them just because
-
They added that feature (to force the warning), as an OTA after the driver was killed. But, don’t disagree re Tesla haters. Just saying the retelling was harrowing.
-
Tesla's strategy was always to offer test drives to convince people to drive their cars. I don't remember it being marketed that way to be honest. I tried it very early on, now I feel unsafe when it's not engaged. Try it you will like it for sure, specially on traffic
