One of my favorite conversations to have. You were making $70k, now you’re making $116k. You have 30 yrs of work left. Even if you never get another raise that’s a $1.3 million swing in lifetime earnings.pic.twitter.com/4t9DK85pYq

There are people we have to convince aren’t “too old” to become a software engineer when they’re 28

35 is not old… this is a tech industry perspective we need to change.

Getting a lot of pushback due to my "unusual and interesting" resume and my age. Seriously considering coming on board. Also considering a 2yr law school program. Not sure how much of a lifespan 50y old devs still have.

And this was that person’s first software engineering job? Related: do you think salaries on Glassdoor are low? You guys likely have unique insight on industry hiring

Let me plug my hero (@mrmoneymustache) into this conversation: if they manage to save and invest 50% of their income (assuming no debt), they can retire after 17 years of work. No need for raises or 18 more years of work. Pure freedom.

What’s the point of posting the conversation if you blur out the individual - “There are people we have to convince aren’t “too old” to become a software engineers when they’re 28 “ ... yet they’re smart enough to become software engineers... SO FAKE!!

I am almost 40 myself and want to leave law to go into IT... I would hope some law firms want someone who has a Database degree but have had no luck so far.
