Who decided that Fisherman’s Wharf should be the main tourist destination in San Francisco? It’s the worst

That is precisely why it is a tourist destination. To keep the tourists in there

Anything that goes all-in on branding itself as the "tourist destination" in its city ends up being the worst part. Source: I have been to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Times Square, the Venice Boardwalk, and Navy Pier.

The National Mall in DC is actually quite lovely. I think it has something to do with the presence of green space.

Yeah it's okay because it restricts the usual "tourist zone" activities in favor of just having nice open space and the monuments.

The seals in the morning, the crabs and clam chowder in the markets, the ferry building, the Ripleys museum, the bout tours and the Pier 39 arcade within walking distance are a few reasons. Sorry you don't enjoy but believe me when I say it's far from the worst...

My favorite definition: "Fisherman's Wharf is what the travel industry thinks a tourist thinks a fishing pier should look like."

I tell people who are visiting to SF to not go there, but they keep spending time there. I don't understand what I'm fighting against.

We've convinced everyone that In-N-Out is some food of the gods, when in fact it's just cheap, greasy burgers that are pretty good when you're broke and/or drunk.

I actually find it very nice. Have you gone to the mechanical museum? That's one of my favourite spots in SF!!! Of course it doesn't compare to spending an afternoon or morning in Muir woods, but still, really nice :)
