Suggested by someone who claims to be revolutionising an education model that is quite alarming. One does not effectively learn by listening to only one perspective.

Seeing as your model is linked to the same kind of systemic inequality that Bezos is the product of, perhaps it makes sense. What % of applicants do you accept again?
-
You can accuse Lambda School of a lot of things; furthering a system of inequality is not one of them
-
I didn’t say that.
-
Blocking people on Twitter is not equivalent to not considering views that are different than your own
-
It is effectively reducing your exposure to ideas you don’t agree with and confirming your bias. I don’t agree with pro life NRA loving republicans but seeing their content helps me undertand them as humans and find middle ground. Sitting in your walled garden will do no good.
-
Still wanting to hear what % of applicants your school accepts. Genuinely curious.
-
I don’t understand how that is related to the rest of the conversation, but it’s about 3%

Counterpoint: Reich's tweet is completely fine, raises some interesting questions, and blocking people based on a tweet they like is millennial snowflake behavior that achieves nothing.
-
Except for the snowflake comment, I agree. See later in the thread where his point is clarified/shown to be pretty reasonable. Related: individual tweets are often misunderstood (by the user of this hypothetical app and/or the like-ers)https://twitter.com/robreich/status/1040402696748953600?s=21 …

He presumption that him giving billions doesn’t deserve gratitude is insane. He could spend that money on hookers and blow.
-
But that’s just it - that’s not the presumption (at least as I understand it). That thread is just saying “we need more information to judge,” not that he doesn’t have the right to do whatever he wants
-
It can be taken too far, but seems perfectly fair to wait to know what it’s doing. For instance, people are reasonably critical of abstinence-only programs bc while they’re a significant outlay of money, and that’s commendable in abstract, they miseducate/lead to worse outcomes.

An opposing opinion should not be used as a reason to ignore it, but as an invitation to understand it.

Call it The Hard Blocker. "I'm going to block you so hard that your likes are going to feel it."

That’s a great idea if what you want is to thicken your echo chamber and only ever listen to opinions that reinforce your biases. You might disagree with Reich but he argues calmly and logically

I don’t get what’s so wrong with Reich’s tweet.
