Apple prices may increase because of the massive Tariffs we may be imposing on China - but there is an easy solution where there would be ZERO tax, and indeed a tax incentive. Make your products in the United States instead of China. Start building new plants now. Exciting! #MAGA

I have been in many, I have built many thousands of PC's, Hundreds of workstations, and many exceptionally large systems. They could put the factory in many areas of the country where labor rates are no higher than in Shenzhen, electricity is cheaper, and state incentives better

Factory workers in China make $2,000-8,000/yr working 60 hour days with no benefits. Please tell me where you would locate a factory at those rates in the US.

Do you have actual data on that or just 10 year old news stories...Or alternately, you support that kind of labor relations? I would pay more for my phone not to buy it from slave labor.

I was in China two months ago. You? And that’s not slave labor, don’t be ridiculous.

I would bet quite a lot on a per phone basis the labor cost is about 20 cents in China if not less, which taking the multiple here would add about $10 bucks to the cost of the phone. (http://www.china-briefing.com/news/2018/08/15/labor-cost-comparison-of-chinas-first-tier-cities.html …)

How are you doing that math? They would save that cost in air freight around the holidays, would make no sense to continue shipping overseas if that were true

One of the biggest advantages in China is not labor, but the government underwriting of the capital cost of manufacturing infrastructure.

By the way, I have done many 60 hour weeks in the computer industry in the U.S. My record for one week was 119 hours when we had a deadline to get a new prototype $6m dollar system up and running.

I will give you one I know off the top of my head. A $400m dollar robotic solar panel production system from Applied Materials, takes 9 people to operate. The labor differential between China and the USA is trivial.

50x the salary for an American just to toss it out. It is unlikely with automation and robotics that the per phone labor content in China is much higher. I accounted for a lot of variation there as well. The new corporate tax rate change should change a lot of mfg economics.
