I buy my dog stuff from @Chewy -- better selection, ecommerce experience is fine and they focus on niche. AMZN prob buys them at some point.

Petsmart already did in 2017
-
ahhhh makes sense
-
Now Amazon needs to buy Petsmart what a pain
-
The niche e-commerce experience is really good now for lots of brands.

Wal-mart and Target offer this. Costco, etc.
-
Free same day delivery on a single item?
-
Free because you buy Prime. I doubt anyone (yet) is totally free.
-
Prime is like buying a costco membership! Amazon wins!

Yesterday, I went from "Hmm, I could use a new shirt" to "I am now walking home with my new shirt" in ~30 minutes, including a stop for a cappuccino. Both relevant local businesses hire locally, treat their employees well, and pay their fair share of taxes - unlike Amazon.

I'm afraid it's to late to compete with Amazon simply because the marketplace is already well structured: Layer 1: The Internet. Layer 2: Google, FB, Amazon. Layer 3: Entities that help you get the most out of layer 2. Incoming innovations: VR, AI and Voice.

-
Too bad they are investing there too
-
Yup, they are fully aware that an innovation could produce a new wave of Zuckerbergs that could reshape the structure of the marketplace so they're trying to be the first ones.

-
Exactly. But the thing is, there is still a chance they miss something. And history will be made.
-
In practicality, massive corporations are slow and easily shift attention to flashy things. On the other side, a team of indie developers who derive directly from a specific niche could build the next powerful thing.

american amazon seems so magical. canadian amazon is like "we have some of the stuff that your local walmart has priced 50% higher and it'll take 8 business days to get to you"
