Edit: as @rogerdickey points out shouldn’t say absolutely guaranteed, just your best bet

Some hyperbole here but I’m glad there is a school somewhere that teaches this
-
Literally not hyperbole
-
It’s healthy to be a little crazy but it’s also healthy to admit, at least to yourself, that sometimes you might be wrong ;)
-
Sure, what’s wrong though? If you invest $2,000/month from the time you’re 24 how do you end up anything other than rich?
-
Better chance than most but it's important for students to know there are no guaranteed investments. My family lost 70% of assets in the .com boom from "low-fee" blue chip funds. Also debt can be great - I borrowed money to buy FB stock pre-IPO, good real estate, etc
-
Not sure I agree. If you bought the S&P 500, even at the height of the .com boom, and held until today the return is 53%

Do you tie this to your incentives? (if students get better at money, do you get more money?) Or is it just improved product -> more sales?
-
Doesn’t necessarily help us, but not hard to do and we want students to be successful

computer sciences is much more than get quick rich scheme, i am sure great minds like Dennis Ritchie are turning in their graves.
-
Nothing says “get rich quick scheme” like training in a demonstrable skill, limited personal spending, and sensible investment.
-
i value investment in a person by adding skills but for all that time i am following, i only hear how much money graduates make, not what product they built?
-
Then you’re not paying attention to all the tweets about demo days and hackathons
-
thats was what i wonder. thanks austen, i will be checking demo projects.

link em to r/personalfinance. those people get upset if you buy a car that costs more than $3,000 even when the author says they just inherited $10M

Are you offering students tools as well to help manage budgets and make smart investment decisions?
-
We have a partnership with
@Wealthfront, where students get their first $15,000 invested managed for 0 fees to help with smart investment decisions. Would love to have a partnership with someone like@ynab for the budgeting part! -
We should talk! I'll send you a DM. :)
-
Love seeing this! Yay YNAB! Speaking of: I'll be going through Lambda's full stack web program in the fall and graduating next spring. Any plans to expand your dev team? ;-)
