On top of that, he's trying to make the world objectively better. He's not trying to build the next addictive platform for people to waste endless hours on, he's building shit that is super ambitious and awesome. The world would be lucky to have more Elon Musks.
-
I know right? If he succeeds in building a dominant US electric car company then it's such a huge win for everyone.

That would certainly be an interesting defense to pose to the SEC.

But he dared criticize the tech press, therefore he must be obliterated from now until forever.

I think it's a framing problem. Most don't view $1B+ USD as a kind of public trust. I.e. Society gives/permits you access to that much capital because they believe you can allocate it the most optimally. If you assume capitalism is zero-sum, all billionaires are de facto evil.
-
"assume capitalism is zero-sum" is the economics equivalent of a spherical cow.

He's promoting the idea of a 120-hour week. So not a fan.

It's not about Elon. He's just a Rorschach test that critics can't resist. Insecurities and a sense of inadequacy on parade.https://twitter.com/RockyPruitt/status/1030889388149010433 …

It would help if he wasn’t trying to save the world, establish a new one AND everyone wasn’t trying to take him down simultaneously because they can’t see through his billions

Alternatively: Maybe people should have come down on him harder, earlier.

He works 120+ hours a week. He hasn’t taken a weekend off since 2001. He has no friends and no system of emotional support. He has to maintain a sparkling image on social media because, to investors, his health and stability determine the long term health of the company.
-
People like that put themselves in that position. It doesn't mean they don't deserve sympathy. "If you just knew how to live life differently you could've done the same and more" is great but hindsight is 20/20. I hope he survives this, really learns and builds again & again.

A lot of people fear for his mental stability due to over work. Then again a lot of people haven’t tried to run 4 companies at the same time. The stress he must go through is unimaginable to most people.

Totally agreed. Unabashed fan, utterly amazed at what he’s accomplished.

No it’s much more productive to write think pieces on what he should have done differently!
