Agree this is a problem/challenge, but why assume that HS/GED grads don't understand compounding? Why assume that a person who takes out a loan does not know that they have to repay much more than the principal? In our school district compounding is taught in the 6th grade

In society in general or among those wanting to pursue a degree in anything above the high school level? If people who want to study at your school or who want to get a college degree don't understand compounding then the loan itself is not the problem.

Completely agree. The human brain isn't really wired to be able to understand compounding very well. It's not how our brain naturally wants to processes counting / numbers.
