But one of them renders the other one moot! If there are better alternatives to university, why do we focus so much on four-year degreeing schools as somehow being the pinnacle of altruim?

FURTHERMORE- 4 year schools were never meant to be paths to employment. For most of history they were luxuries for rich kids, so why do we think that _university_ over trade school will be what leads to employment?

If by 'social' you mean (and maybe you do, so no judgement) institutional racism designed specifically to keep college classrooms as white as possible so that Latinos and blacks are kept behind, then yes - social

It's almost as if the SAT and other standardized tests around the world (e.g. gaokao) were designed to be ways to try to find untapped talent.

The talent is right there, in front of us all. The fact that we didn't invite these folks to take the tests - which have been around for a long time - is the issue.
