psst, rename high school computer science classes “video game design.” students create their own game, starting with story work. build to coding, contextually, for game design as needed. congrats, you now have a nation of engineers.

I just mean I’ve seen “video game design” not be of value. As someone who learned in Middle School to program and seeing people who took all these classes struggle in college I have a very pessimistic perspective on these kinds of courses.

They often end up using some game design software that hides a lot of programming cause it’s too hard to actually teach programming or get them interested. I’m not sure that’s actually effective. Maybe it was just my experience though.
