I remember when I was trying to make my way into tech a founder told me he had a job for me and to "ping" him. I had no idea what that meant, I googled forever and ended up emailing someone and asking what that meant. Now I say "ping me" all the time, not even thinking about it

This is a symptom of declining economic dynamism IMO Class cues are very common in Europe — the allure of America used to be things would change too fast for entrenched wealthy people to develop as many customs

I think you were the one that recommended The Radicalism of the American Revolution? Spot on

"Proper cues" could be a bit generous. Lower Class have TERRIBLE habits. And I do mean absolutely fucking terrible. It wasn't until (like 2 yrs ago), I 'divorced' my folks (on good terms, but their 'ways') and adopted Ben Franks as papa that I began to notice what all I did wrong
-
Some simple things are : Poor choice of friends (easy to get along with vs productive), Poor choice of food (tasty vs healthy), Poor choice of work (work I can do vs work that is most profits), Poor choice of free time (games, movies vs books, study)...
-
Poor choice of Business Networking (when I needed to vs all the time, just because), Poor commitment to work (similar to networking, but 'big events' vs small and interesting), Poor communication (Sufficient for job vs brand building, world shaping).... those were noticeable.
-
Regarding "morality", I had two major faults. One, associating more money with more ethical dilemmas. This makes 'more money make more problems'. This is a bad thought process. Another was 'I need to help people'. This makes you weak until you can't even help yourself.
-
Also, I felt doing things for them, or loaning or giving them things was 'help'. Now most help I give is Ben Frank's 13 Virtues, Junto Meetings, Ben's Way to Wealth, etc. Never money, or free labor. I always offer trades though (you do work, I pay well). No one ever does the work

There are a lot of harsh overgeneralizations in this thread. As far as food choices, a lot of that is access vs choice. Healthy food can be expensive. Books can be expensive. Access to libraries can be minimal in rural areas. Even access to internet.
-
Books are $100 a year, and I'm on a diet under $10 / day. The only healthy food you need is fish, fruit, salad, and eggs. Super cheap. All else is a sales pitch. Do not make excuses, or blame your birth for the problems of today. It's your choices that suck. Study previous lives.
-
I’m sorry, wasn’t aware that I was blaming anything in my life on my birth. I was born firmly middle class. My family has healthy food and books and all of those things you think are required to be good people. But I know that we are fortunate and not everyone is.

In the past, people would hire speech and language tutors to help them shed their socio-economic tells so that they could better blend in with their newer standing.

We like to believe the US is the ultimate land of opportunity and that biases about background don’t exist but the reality is that they do. So people working their way up have to play the game so to speak
-
And it is still better than most other places. I’ve met so many tech folks from the north of England in the US that face accent-based discrimination at home, whereas here any British accent is seen as +10 IQ.

And an extra $25k as a youth soccer coach in the US.

Agree x1000. Had a college scholarship interview weekend, fancy dinner event. Black tie. I wore borrowed clothes and asked the director if the program if he was going to eat the roll on his plate. He was stunned and offered it to me.
