Precisely. Trying to see Facebook clearly through the prism of traditional publishing and advertising is about as fruitful as trying to account for relativity using Newtonian physics. The paradigms are incommensurate.

People look at fun pictures on Instagram. On FB, people share news. Information. Information about entertainment. So much so that it started sucking traffic and attention away from publishers. IOW: FB started killing publishers, an essential component of our society.

The synopsis is kind of click-baity (likely because it's from a publisher), but when he doesn't care about publishers things like the election happen. FB ideally should incentivize good publishers, even though its rev model pretty much prevents it
