What does one’s net worth need to be to justify buying a $200k Tesla Roadster? Because that’s all I actually care about with regard to wealth.

If you live in Scottsdale: $30k and $120k/year in pre-tax income. If you live in San Francisco: $20 million cash

We balling out here in middle America fam. $120 is low for any decent mid to large city. I would say > $150 for single. >$350 household if kids

I mean my fam is from somewhere where $300k buys a great house. But even if you own a house $200k on a car feels egregious, as it’s a depreciating asset

I like the aspect of: In non SF markets a starting SF engineering salary + minor networth provides tons of financial freedom (great house + discretionary income) Aka why more management teams should move our way 😎

$2m. The Roadster would keep a good portion of its value, assuming you kept it in good shape and only drove it periodically.

FWIW, when I sold my last company, I splurged 6% of my net worth on a luxury SUV and now regret it.

the 20/4/10 rule, says you should: Make a down payment of at least 20%. Finance a car for no more than four years. And not let your total monthly vehicle expense all included, exceed 10% of your gross income. for a $200K car income should be above $500K, are you getting near it?
