It’s pretty wild that there’s an entire industry made up of people whose main message is “I don’t like identity politics.”https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/08/why-the-left-is-so-afraid-of-jordan-peterson/567110/ …

I think it may seem that way because of how Twitter and the media emphasize both that set of issues and The Designated Other Side, but if that were actually an industry, it would fit inside an office sized for a boutique consulting firm in life insurance conversion optimization.

JBP is about more than that, his core message is to get your life straight and bear responsibility, which is helpful to many young men. + over 500 hours of insightful lectures on psychology online + more

Your claim was that that was his “main message”

This is natural when the main message from one half of the the political spectrum is: Identity Politics.

But your claim is also mostly misleading. Peterson and Harris and so on are mostly academics with other interests. The “industry” that you’re noticing is, again, one that grew around them *because* of the ubiquity of Identity Politics to which they are responding.

Looking at the replies, this tweet seems to be a honeypot for people who believe Peterson to be an actual academic. Personally I learned to clean my room thanks to @G2Institute and it comes with less than 12 rules. (Whatever you do, don’t feed Jordan Peterson after midnight)

Not as wild as there being an industry built on identity politics for others to oppose. The cure is rarely worse than the disease.

It’s only wild if you disregard the entire industry that does preach identity politics. It’s kind of an arms race. In isolation this may look unusual. but you must see the big picture.
