The BYU cost/selectivity/alumni quality composition has been the most mind-blowing thing I've learned in the last six weeks.

Please speak more to this. What’s surprising?

I can't think of another school with 48% acceptance rate, 33K students, $5K max tuition, and 10ish recent alumni serving as tech Unicorn CEOs. Likely more BYU alums running $500M+ valuation companies than MIT grads. That's extraordinary.

No statistics, but anecdotally BYU has an insanely disproportionate representation on Wall Street (at least at junior levels - might be a newer phenomenon)

They’re a feeder school for big investment banks

I always took Utah education for granted. That student-debt map is mind blowing. I was fortunate to get an affordable education without debt

This is why I was able to pay off all of my student loans within just a few years after leaving school.

But SUNY & CUNY, massive public higher ed systems in NY, are comparably cheap, yet NY shows a lot of student debt. So perhaps something else is going on with Utah.

I love BYU Idaho. It wasn’t that hard to graduate with no debt. Automatic academic tuition scholarship based on GPA. $500 bonus back if you graduate in 8 semesters. (Graduate school at Indiana U more than made up for it though.)

Still crazy. My tuition at the U of U was ~$2400 (~$3000 including fees) per year when I started in 2002. BYU was almost exactly the same, or maybe a little more expensive back then, IIRC.
-
Mine was $5,000 per semester at the U in 2010
