Also I think a lot of people might agree with some of his opinions here and there, while still disagreeing with many others of his. Rarely is anyone "all in" on Thiel.

Prob applies to everyone. Do we ever love 100% of things a person does?

Maybe he has narative phobia. He hates the prevailing narrative whatever it is. Narratives usually represent power, usually outlive their usefulness by a considerable margin and they kill critical discussion.

Do we really have to defend someone’s right to have a political opinion different from our own in a democracy? Apparently so

If you like/respect Thiel, and yet don’t understand that his public persona is a useful part of his overall geopolitical chess match, then you help prove his point - “We are in a race between politics and technology.” Or, “b/t copying and creation.”

I have met him in person and he’s the most energy consuming human I have ever encountered. A true dementor of a person.

What do they respect about him, though? Eg I like his opinions about tech stagnation when he said that we we are traveling desert thinking it is enchanted forest. His politics is less admirable.
