So how do we make it easier for good talent from outside of Silicon Valley to break in?

It usually helps if you look like them
-
You should talk to the dozens of African American, Latino and female founders that have high paying software jobs after Lambda. It’s the majority of our students.
-
Did they get jobs in Silicon Valley?
-
Many did, yes
-
Yay! I'm very happy for them.

how did you move from inside to outside?
-
Got good enough at something to convince one crazy person to pay me to do it, then killed myself to blow them away. From there it was a cakewalk.
-
I want to hear this story in more detail. The story would probably help you sell Lambda school too!
-
I think I’m going to package it up in a talk to share with the studenfs
-
Sure, if you need someone to look over the story, let me know. I am sure I can ask you (polite) questions to elicit more details. But, yeah, your particular journey would be a massive selling point and motivator: " had to do it the hard way so I can give you an easier chance".
-
What I was thinking of was packaging the story in a similar narrative style to which Kevin Hong packaged his story of building out his business with his partner while living in a van: http://www.outlierapproach.com/learned-living-working-van-published-business-collective/ … It would be a great promotional tool!
-
Building the narrative like (1) This was my mission, (2) These were the problems I had to solve (3) This is how I solved each problem, (4) I am here to help you all today (5) I will solve problems that come up (housing, etc) with the same determination; this is my new mission.

He looks foreign and you are not...why people judge is beyond me

-
What are you even talking about?
-
You are trying to explain this mans hard times by making yours look brighter..I don't judge he is not pan handling..you just could have said.."Ive been there I understand" but you chose to glorify yourself
