We need more dissenters in Silicon Valley. Everyone agrees on too much stuff.

I disagree. People don't actually agree on everything, the incentives are just aligned to keep more disagreements private.

Then you guys should invite me over. I guess the trick is to also *listen* to what a dissenter has to say though!

Personally, I don’t think so much that there’s a lack of dissenters.. there’s just such a dominant orthodoxy here that they aren’t really public with their views for the sake of companies/investments/reputation etc. My current evaluation is that the situation is improving though.

Only founders and wealthy investors can disagree. They’re rewarded for being different. Everyone else risks their livelihood with dissension.

One place where I'd like to see more dissent: is A/B testing a good thing or bad thing? Couldn't a classically trained designer make decisions based on gut feelings and an ethical framework?

        1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes
      3. Noah Rosenberg‏ @nrose Jul 27
        Replying to @nw3 @AustenAllred

A classically-trained designer is someone who has consumed a ton of A/B tests and predicting outcomes based on it A/B is bad for across groups but works within groups, or better, within a single person.
