I suspect the investment in Slack was a key deal condition. So if Slack becomes a $100B company, Atlassian at least makes $1B or so.

I was just chatting with folks at Atlassian the other day, and colleagues were like "but aren't they kind of a competitor?" and I was all "but they're also our friends, so let's be good neighbors" and now we're EVEN MORE friends, SO PSYCHED!
