I love me some progressive politics but this is plain stupid. A HUGE giveaway to real estate investors. @Keith_Wasserman will make a killing as rents spike ~30%

Weird unintended consequences too. Renters with HHI over $100K would be forced out by higher prices and would buy, which would increase home prices so home owners benefit too. Basically the upper half benefits at the expense of the poor, totally against the intent of the idea.

San Francisco & California politics since 1978, TLDR: “Basically the upper half benefits at the expense of the poor, totally against the intent of the idea.” – & also
@SenKamalaHarris’s plan for the USA

I hope new materials, 3D printing of homes, and other innovations will overpower the status quo and bring affordable housing to the people. I can only hope.
-
3d printing homes is junk, the structure of homes is cheap, the land and plumbing/wiring/paint work is expensive, and nobody’s automating those parts yet. We need shelter to be a depreciating or stable asset, like other necessities.

2017 Defense budget was $610 billion. Assuming $100,000 cost, the government could build and give away 6.1 million new homes. Every year.

Fixing these problems starts with education. Economic education is sorely lacking in this country. Also speaking politically Harris knows that there is 0% chance republicans pass this so it is aimed at exciting people rather than being real policy

Abolish the SF 4-story ban would be a good start.
-
How does that ban work?
-
They have a ban on any buildings (outside of a very small downtown area) over 4 stories high, in order to keep the “unique character” of the city and not block out the sun. ... Or something like that. It was instituted sometime in the late 60s or early 70s.
