Hey Austen, Wichita, KS has been studying how to pull ourselves out of a lack of growth (https://thechungreport.com/ ) and we have a decent start at developing our tech pool. We've got comically cheap housing.

We have been in talks with some folks in Wichita! I love the idea.
-
Very awesome! I just posted your RFP looking for who would be best to respond to it. Great that there are already people responding!

I would like to put in a word for thinking about locating somewhere nearer a regional airport. Cost of living in these smaller cities, and more, within commuting distance even, can offer huge savings. Would boost a local economy too.
-
Would love to!

Your answer is Huntsville, Alabama.
-
Because others will wonder why: general low cost of living Gigabit city Just won a FB datacenter Marshal Space Flight Center Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotech Redstone Arsenal Oh, and Toyota, Boeing, Lockheed, ULA, SAIC, etc, etc.
-
What’s on Redstone? Glad you asked. Army Aviation/Missile Command Army Materiel Command Missile Defense Agency Army Space and Missile Defense Command Army Aviation & Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center
-
Can confirm I did my AIT out there. There’s ALOT on Redstone.
-
Huntsville 3-5x what it was when you were here. And as long as you don’t want to live downtown, it’s not expensive. Shoot, find one of the outlying towns for housing and have the school on the edge of the city.
-
Give me some names of outlying towns
-
How far (travel time) from tech center?

Do you have an idea of the immediate need, in terms of the number of beds? Just trying to get a sense of the initial size range.
-
30-100. I know that’s a wide range.

I bet while fixing the US education crisis you accidentally end up solving the US housing crisis as well

it’s very unfortunate (and telling long term) that the answer for a tech company looking for a location is essentially “anywhere but the Bay Area”. Hard to quantify the amount of talent (and tax revenue) Bay Area is missing out on due to refusal to build high density housing.

Maybe repurpose Marylhurst University campus near Portland, OR. "real estate where the school is located will be returned to the Sisters of the Holy Names. ...use the property in alignment with their mission & values,”https://www.kgw.com/article/news/education/marylhurst-university-to-close-as-enrollment-drops-by-50-percent/283-553098763 …
