I’m curious, are you assuming 30 year fixed, 20% down? Are taxes & insurance included in the $500/mo?
-
That number seems off anywhere except maybe Detroit. Location? I have secondary mortgages with the same payment.
-
Zillow’s Mortgage Calculator estimates that for $500/mo you can buy an $80,000 home:pic.twitter.com/YOIg6PnADw
-
Not much you can buy for 80k but for like $850/mo you can get a decent house. I pay $900/mo for my 3br with a pool and 3/4acre lot in Grand Rapid MI
-
Agreed. I live in Central Illinois, about halfway between Chicago & St Louis. We have tech jobs at Caterpillar and State Farm HQs and by University of Illinois. And affordable homes! But not literally “$500/mo for 3BR” affordable. Maybe if you commute from a dying smaller town...
-
Small town in Oklahoma in this instance. I was looking at mortgage price of a ~$90k house
-
That’s so awesome that the Lambda student was able to get a life-changing education and job offer, without relocating away from a place with affordable cost of living!

Less than that in Utah. And a very nice job market.
-
Bigger cities though? Park City? Provo?
-
Park City is California prices, but no you couldn’t get that low in Provo either. Or even like Spanish Fork (for a 3BR.)
-
I meant where are there good job markets outside of the big cities? Places with those mortgage rates often correlate with weak markets. (I live in one in N Michigan)

Anywhere but California..

-
Yep, where I live in CA, to rent a three-bedroom house would cost around $3, 500 a month
