Few data points, but we're getting closer to the point where we will be able to predict how people will do in the job market based on the work they do in class. The earlier we can find and predict the difference-makers the better we can optimize for that, and everyone wins.

As long as you've decided that you don't care about any value other than the thing you're optimizing, it's fine. (Usually, though, we *should* care about externalities and non-specified social values.)
