Inherently? No, not out of context. But it seems unlikely that the majority of folks entering into these programs can just take 7+ months off in their life without having to take care of life expenses. Given they can't get a student loan, they are forced elsewhere (1/2)

... and I would bet that means credit cards for most. Which have a much higher average APR than student loans at ~5%. So if they don't get a job, thats a massive burden. If they do, they are giving up a large portion of the salary (I assume pre-tax?) before paying those off

Nope, if they don’t have living expenses covered they can attend the part time class or work with our nonprofit fund for living expenses.

So you assume someone working part-time can cover 100% of living expenses without extraneous borrowing? There are some people working 2-3 jobs at a time just to make ends meet. What is the criteria for assistance from the nonprofit fund?

I asked about criteria for how that fund works / partitions assistance. No such detail in the article about that. It got paid as much lip service as your tweet about it did. In fact, all it said is that you were "exploring" setting it up. So is it vaporware?

Gotcha. So laptops are provided for anyone that is accepted and needs one, then living stipends are offered to students in the application flow on a case by case basis. It’s still small, only a few weeks old, but the person in the article was a recipient, as are others
