I’d bet the average person would be better off with one year of college and three years of unpaid internships than four years of college and four years of student loans

No. This is a major anti-pattern that many companies, including startups/tech companies, would use to screen someone out of any job application process.
-
Hmm I might know a little something about getting jobs without a degree based on what I do for a living. With three years of experience you get hired faster than a new grad every time.
-
You may be talking past each other. If it’s three separate one year internships then they will be screened out for job hopping (eng may be unique exception). If it’s three years at one place then they’ll have a good shot. I too do this for a living
-
Ya, I assumed 3 diff internships. I'm also very skeptical of college dropouts (ivy and Stanford and top 10 liberal arts excluded) getting internships at age 19. Rare they'd get into a large professional or corporate organization.
-
I don’t know how it goes outside tech, but a Stanford dropout who got internships (esp if at prestigious tech cos) at 19 will be able to find a job in 10min for their entire life
-
Sure good for Stanford and Apple.
@AustenAllred said "average person."
