Of course paid internships would be even better, but even getting paid zero is better than paying huge tuitions if the outcome can be the same

Paid internships. We used to call such people apprentices.
-
Except apprentices would pay, not be paid
-
Apprentices are always paid.
-
Unfortunately that's simply not true

What do you trust more, the department of labor or Wikipedia

They don’t contradict each other

Garbage take. Utterly ridiculous hypothetical. Just because overpriced tuition is a problem doesn't mean (THREE YEARS of) unpaid labor would be better. The worker would still need to take out loans just to pay rent. This is some silicon valley vulture nonsense.
-
No it’s pretty doable, even with a living stipend. You also wouldn’t need three full years.
-
You're speaking in optimistic hypotheticals with no basis in reality. It's only "doable" if the intern can secure an income outside of the internship, which would most likely be loans or a second job. The "average person" doesn't have extra money to cushion years of unpaid labor
-
I’ve got a company with millions in the bank. That’s the great thing about Silicon Valley, you can just make it happen.
-
What % of your staff has <1 year of college?
-
No it’s less than that, but I would trade college for years of experience for every one of them
-
So what’s the actual %? And how many of those come from families that come from the left half of the income distribution?

Average person or average IT person? There's no reason that in the 21st century we should have unpaid internships, it's unrealistic and unsustainable. There is a market for lending money to students of blue collar trades and internships. Better odds than for-profit colleges.
-
So, to be clear, having a student pay for college is more sustainable than having a student not pay for an internship
-
I meant that loans for internships and trade should be available for living expenses for unpaid internships or trade schools bc that's needed. Unpaid internships could be good investments. Actual experience is great. &Micro loans for certification could help for short term needs.
