Context? Year? The easy explanation is he's only talking to white male billionaires. But I believe there's more to the story. Surely he knows about suffering/injustice/poverty/corruption/prisons/weapons/politics/BigCo/racism. Where does his optimism come from? Genuine questions.

The view looks great from $80bn up. Not so much from the edge of poverty and the margins of culture. Especially in a country where dynamo depends largely on low wage migrant labor, slightly less low wage “services,” the still ephemeral knowledge industry and finance.

Isn’t even about inequality and all that jazz. It’s about a country where too much native labor is slack and unprepared for either toil in the menial regime or outsized success in professional services. It’s getting better, but there’s a lot of ground to make up.
