Nice job cherry picking and ignoring the central thesis that even with the wages and benefits, the cost of housing is too much. Fraudulent.

Oh trust me I do not deny that underlying thesis

Tbh, I prefer the move towards serverless restaurants. Paying up front is more efficient and I save money by not having to tip 20%. I've always disliked having to wait around for the waiter between every step anyway. It's worth the work of finding my own table and silverware.

Full service is nice when I'm going for an upscale experience, but if I want to dine solo it's a bit awk and frustrating. I want to be able to use their space to eat quickly and get out of there. I guess I wish American restaurants were better designed for that, like Japan!

Imagine the service jobs would come under pressure as housing continues to skyrocket no matter what. At some point you can’t keep outsourcing your service jobs to the far out exurbs.

IDK, I own a place where we have to increase minimum wage and we raised our prices 20% and havent had customer complaints...Also, even at $15/hr people still dont make enough on one income to afford to live in SF on their own.
-
Also, some jobs do get replaced by ordering kiosks etc...but it's not going to be catastrophic to the service industry workforce.

The silver lining: plenty of work for the software and systems engineers that will maintain the robots that end up replacing service workers.

Increasing min wage is a short term solution to lack of buying power from ppl with low wages. It will encourage
#Automation adoption by companies to keep costs low , therefore layoffs. It will drive denand for a while for higher paying jobs in software and#Robotics thoughThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I'm sure it'll be hard on small biz, but frankly, as someone who's lived in SF for 10 years, it's impossible to survive on a minimum wage or even a $20/hour salary. It's pretty sad when most people who work in a city can't afford to live in it & I'm talking about mid-class jobs.

How long before SF mandates that restaurants employ so many waiters per table?

One thing people don’t think about is that raising the minimum wage can make capital more attractive as an alternative to labor. I’m not going to buy a $10,000 machine that lasts 1000 hours when I could pay someone $10 an hour for 1000 hours. But at $20 / hour...

I guess a job that anyone can do with minimal OJT is on it's way out the door.
-
Lol minimal OJT in service industry
. You wouldn’t last a minute at somewhere like Manresa let alone a 500 seat steakhouse -
I wouldn't? Okay.
