Grew up among upper-middle-class kids who considered themselves middle-class. Am now upper-middle-income, but in a high cost-of-living location, and so definitely feel middle-middle-class: no fancy cars or vacations, house needs work, need to stick to a budget.

Interesting that it's "upper-middle class" in your experience. Growing up I always thought "working class" or "lower-middle class" for my family. Now, as a software engineer, I'm solidly in "upper-middle class"...or, at least I think I am. :D
