DFJ was an early investor, seed -iirc, and thus could have been funding the idea and not the fraud. Every other investor was not sharp SV money

I hope you were just countering the point that it wasn't top VC firms that invested and not that top SV VC firms aren't capable of doing a poor job of due diligence (because that would be incorrect).

I’m saying the crap Holmes pulled wouldn’t fly with smart money. Seed stage? Sure. Series A? Sure. $500m round? No chance in hell

DFJ was first money in. $500k to fund the exploration of what at the time was an energetic, passionate college student with some unique ideas that if they could be executed on would both serve a massive market and radically improve user / consumer / human experience.

Tim makes some very good points. Maybe when a culture that supposedly embraces risk and failure gets past their piling on party they can take the time to give them some consideration.
