Put all those things together with good ol’ regulatory uncertainty, and it’s difficult to imagine any US company winning a Chinese market. Then you remember that the market is bigger there and growing, and it will likely always be the case that their tech scene is bigger

Also, they have a huge advantage in creating hardware. Cost, yes. But more importantly, colocating with their low cost manufacturing allows for a much more rapid pace of product development, which is 10x more important at early stage.

Oh yeah and synergy with your earlier point - no qualms whatsoever about using American IP obtained by their manufacturers to build their own products.
