Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk do a ton of objectively bad stuff, but I just want to be clear that the mere act of holding onto that much money in a world with this much inequality is in itself a brutally evil action, and alone makes them bad people.

It is not just OK. It is precisely how US became so prosperous and will stay that way. The chance of hitting it big motivated many of the inventions on which we all depend: like our massive food supply and this social network we are all bitching into. Nevertheless, too (cont'd)
-
much old money was made off slave labor and raping the earth. Too little new & old money is used to address social & environmental issues. Bezos has focused millions on the former. Musk has focused billions on the latter. But obviously more of this wealth must be channeled better
-
We became the most powerful nation on the planet by having a shit load of natural resources due to having a very diverse climate across the country. AND we allowed oppressed people to enter. If Hitler isn’t an anti-Semite than Einstein probably gives Germany the atom bomb...
-
The Soviet Union had just as many natural resources as the United States
-
mostly true. USSR could never have become the largest economy in the world, but could have increased its GDP/capita by 50% or so with better policies.

I shouldn’t say only when. That’s one of the ways. Having billions of dollars is not entrinsically evil.
-
Fully agree, Austen. Most of their net worth has been built on, and is still held in, their equity in the enterprises that they’ve built
-
most of their net worth is built on exploiting labor. i bet those workers who aren’t allowed a bathroom break are SO happy about Jeff’s newest $3b
-
How? FYI I hate Trump and I voted HRC but these comments are absurd. Have you actually followed how Bezos Built his co over the years?
-
Have you followed their profitability over the years? They’ve had practically zero margins over the years. Bezos cash salary is low
-
it’s so low that he’s trying to build a rocket ship because he can’t think of literally anything else to do with his “amazon winnings” because they’re just that huge?

You don't think our entire society functions on the belief that having more money is causally related to "being a better person"? That's what money *is*, for goodness sake.
-
If you think that’s what money is you are a sad person. That means you literally think less of poor people lmao
-
You've absolutely misinterpreted me there. Society is set up in such a way that that is the meaning of money. I despise that about society and money both. But governments all over the world demonstrate every day that they think less of poor people.

There’s an exception to this. Musk/ Bezos are better than others. They’ve proved it. They’ve contributed more to society than others and in return they’ve made a much larger sum. Better people? Questionable. Better entrepreneurs? Yes. Capitalist society they should be rewarded.
-
Sending a link is the same as not being able to explain a view you have. Summarize and send your view back to me. Think for yourself.
-
Musk and Bezos haven't proved they are better entrepreneurs simply because they are ones whose dotcoms were left standing.
-
Look at bezos stock increase in the past five years and how he’s changed ordering goods/ supply’s online. Musk is the first privately owned company to reach space and is making advancements in transportation that no one has done.
-
These points tend to reinforce my view rather than change it.
