I wish remote companies were more open about the downsides of being remote. They’re definitely there, but I suspect they may be solvable.

Ah, yea. I can see that it may be a bigger issue from the company side than the employee side. We have a very open "get in a zoom call" policy when working on issues. I suppose we may lose out on some of the random inspiration moments that you get when working in the same room.

I don't see the difference. In both environments you just write down a growing list of ideas or schedule a meeting.

I think you can compensate for a lot with the right type of collaboration tools and policies but random interactions can trigger spontaneous ideas. I'm not sure it's always a good thing, but it's gotta be sometimes.

Sone Things just work differently when done in person - design workshops, discussion with any tactical element. Empathy towards new participants is nearly always different when in front of each other.
