Where I’m from that comfortably gets you a 5,000 square foot 5 bed/4 bath house on over an acre with a guest house that’s 2x the size of the studio in SFpic.twitter.com/yC3XCezZKi

Actually closer to 6,000 than 5,000 which is a rounding error that’s 2x the size of the SF studio
In non prime Brooklyn N.Y. you could probably get 1k or 1200 sq with some amenities for that price.
Ya we’re basically at 1/3 the space of Brooklyn in non-prime San Francisco now
Not a fair comparison. That screenshot is from one of the new apartment complexes popping up all over the city (I recognize the pricing page). These are brand new and have management co, package room, gym, lounge area, events, and other amenities that are atypical of SF.
Ya but other people are linking 5,000 square foot houses with a gym inside and enough to pay for a Model X on the side. So not apples to apples, but wild contrast
Tokyo: a ~2.5 bedroom condo, modern but not brand new, ~5 minute walk from the train station, in one of the hottest 3 neighborhoods in the city.
and THIS is the example that makes SF most clearly insane. if you can get that in fucking tokyo, wtf is SF doing wrong? (basically everything, it turns out)
in the most expensive parts of Houston, that would get you a 2-bedroom 2-bath 1250sqft apartment with every imaginable luxury. or in the suburbs you could get a 5000sqft house in a masterplanned community
In the most expensive part of [pseudorural top-60 big city] that gets you basically a city block.
I have enough money to be an Emperor in my family's home country. Like, I could just never work again. Why aren't I doing this? Why aren't most people doing this? It should be at least a little more common
plenty of people do this in Thailand
Plenty of people who do this go to Thailand, but i dunno if plenty of people in [big city] do this
well yes
3 bed 3 bath house in a beautiful neighborhood in Kansas City. And you can save the spare $600/month.
5000 sq ft on a half acre. Still only be about $2500 so through in a Model X.pic.twitter.com/bGuLj6Lzvj
Not my home btw, just looked it up on the mls.
In KC, here’s a loft overlooking liberty memorial for the same price, 3240sqft 3br 4ba with balconies facing 3/4 directions, marble, custom cabinets, 2 jacuzzis, access to pool health club and tennis courts. 1.5 acre rooftop area for entertaining and grillingpic.twitter.com/oSc7B5Qh3O
