I have a $3,000 computer with 16GB of RAM and a beefed up processor, but Slack, Chrome and Spotify bring it to its knees. A messaging app, a web browser, and a music player. I could comfortably run those on the hardware I had 20 yrs ago.

I rest my case ;)

What are you complaining about then
@AustenAllred ? -
The software
-
no, your complaining about your computer being slow, i do not have a better machine than you (apparently) i use more chrome base stuff and heavy software, and still i can use it comfortably, so i dont think its the software at all. You've been robbed 2k. Sorry

Why in fuck does slack run up so much RAM? That's the question all these geniuses are failing to answer.
@SlackHQ why do you use so much RAM? Simple question. -
Because of electron. Or whatever it's based on. It's based on a chrome esq underneath. The real question is why does chrome take up so much ram? Because it sandboxes everything, and who knows what else it is doing.

The Spotify app for Mac had issues last year and was know to grind processes to a halt. You might want to check that out or update it? Specs look good, must be a SW issue.
