We pay Nebraska's taxes because they're in the red. So I wince when ppl from red states bash states that are paying the burden for their debt.

Good to hear California is in the black!
-
Yes, we have Dems in every chamber. Republicans are officially a third party in CA. We raised taxes. Governors should try it. We went from 22 billion in red under Schwartzenegger to 6 billion in black. We aren't perfect but we ARE trying. I've lived in red states, never again.

Oh I was joking California is deeply in debt, more than almost any other state, even measured per capitahttps://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ocregister.com/2017/09/27/will-california-ever-pay-off-its-massive-debt/amp/ …

makes me wonder if lambda should promote remote hiring

If remote work ever became sufficiently competitive that talent can get SF/SV market rates anywhere in the world, it's the end of bay area real estate prices... So SF/SV real estate prices are a prediction market for remote work becoming sufficiently viable...

Here's the problem: Feds keep taking CA's federal tax money and giving it to MAGA states. Independent CA would be cash flush (but to be clear, I don't support that BS). This is why the electoral college and house seat inequities need to be abolished.pic.twitter.com/4djHQAFNTb

The "small gov" crowd doesn't realize that they are the ones on the teet.

I live in Reno and 65k is very respectable here. I make SF income and will not need to work past ~37 if I choose. Location arbitrage is real.

I'm originally from Ky and pricing is very similar. Engineers in Louisville were getting offered 60k-80k out of college when I was graduating and were sitting fat and happy with a BIG home.

Yep. And I can intro them to countless examples here. Stories from both rural and urban - here in Omaha & Lincoln.

Baffling to me that anyone diminishes someone's personal progress regardless of location.

We live in rural UK. My remote salary (low by SF standards) pays our mortgage, bills, feeds our family of 5, and leaves 30% over as disposable income. Who needs a high salary when you don't live in a moneysink!

My $1100 a month student loan bill becomes a much higher percentage of my income, however.

Friend of mine once suggested to me a "divide by 2" rule for the Bay Area. Salary is normal, rent is normal, everything else starts to look dirt cheap!
