@SamHarrisOrg@BretWeinstein@EricRWeinstein are all on the left and there are plenty of subjects they disagree on with JP/BS. also, while JP leans right on many issues he is a lot closer to the center than Shapiro (e.g. JP supports universal health care)Thanks. Outright hostility from the mainstream media is pretty critical to that designation. But maybe
@ggreenwald counts, since he faces a lot of scrutiny talking about privacy and foreign policy but defends himself wellThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

The Pod Save America bros are like the liberal establishment version of Shapiro. The left version of JP is pretty much every outspoken academic (Chomsky, West...etc).

I believe most mainstream comedians are left leaning and are perhaps the closest equivalent.

Uncertain if you think it's good or bad. Appeals to Emotion aren't meaningful discourse, but the right is eating it up atm, pretending there's substance because the left doesn't like it.

Their whole deal is to offend and generate controversy. That makes it so they are talked about a lot. But are they really that influential?

As far as I can tell, the Venn diagram intersection of ratiaonality, liberal ideals and eloquence is populated by
@EricRWeinstein@SamHarrisOrg et al. These guys aren’t “the left” but are more worthy of attention than either bi-polar end of the spectrum.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

The analogy’s not perfect, but maybe you’re looking for a Žižek?https://youtu.be/Pk8ibrfXvpQ

Keep in mind that past a certain distance to the left liberals will be right of the people you’re looking at, eg Marxists. Americans particularly find this difficult to remember, but in many places liberals are the center or right and the left is populated by a different crowd

I’m not surprised. The hard left advocates for redistribution of wealth so no media corporation is going to amplify that, and standard liberalism has been mainstream for the last 9 years so there’s nothing to talk about.
-
There are a lot of writers with grassroots followings on the left, but I don’t think there’s an exact parallel. Fundamentally, I just don’t think there could be right now
