Maybe this is grasping at straws, but it’s fascinating how close evolutionary processes of different systems mirror each other. (1/n)

Of course, In biology you have genetic mutations that survive or don’t (yes I’m oversimplifying). In economics new ideas start as new companies and survive or don’t. What’s fascinating is how closely machine learning (especially deep learning) mirrors that same process (2/n)

In computing most search algorithms (take Djykstra’s as an example) are basically “rapid guess and check.” Machine learning and AI are essentially “guess and check” done incredibly quickly at a huge scale with beefed up computer hardware (3/n)

So here’s my unifying theory of life: Systems are so complex that no one can predict anything, so basically we should try as many things as we possibly can and discard the losers as quickly as we can, knowing that learning takes so long we’ll all probably die first (4/n)

This is what makes crypto so fascinating + important. The open-source and decentralized nature of many of the products allows different hypotheses and approaches to be tested rapidly, with the best quickly emerging AND being propagated - supercharging the evolution of the tech

2 great examples are monetary policy and governance. Impossible to test and measure efficacy of different approaches on entire countries, but in crypto-land we are witnessing real-time experiments with different token-economies and crypto projects

Very much how Emerson read and journaled, if my recollection of the (lengthy) bio "Emerson: The Mind on Fire" is sound.

There is only trial and error. There are no other options. The only variable is how many errors it takes to get to a success. Sometimes it's zero errors, but that doesn't mean it's a special case.

Nah. Mutations are random, that's the main difference between evolution and other systems you are referring to. When we do not know much, it is valuable to try many random things, but we are not reinventing the engine every day.
