I hate 'liking' these heart wrenching images of the victims but realise the importance of not ignoring this dreadful past to protect our now and future lives.

Someone once stated that giving a like means the people are recognised and remembered. I love that thought, maybe it works for you as well?

But these horrifying stories should also be told.

How could any human being do this and not be destroyed by guilt and remorse?
-
Perhaps they were destroyed inside but could hardly escape the machine. Perhaps they refused to let those thoughts penetrate. But one way or another, the horror became normalised. Normalisation creeps up on us, as we see now, as far-right xenophobia takes hold around the world.

Whilst doing research for a script that will look at Westerbork and Theresienstadt I came across a story about a baby that was born prem and saved because the camp commandant bought an incubator for it. When it reached a good weight he sent it to Auschwitz to be killed.

Watching World at War yesterday where a woman was saying her brother was 'chosen' to go to the gas chamber but she wasn't allowed because she had scarlet fever. Broke my heart.
