Clever idea to separate of the concepts of ‘parental responsibility’ & ‘decision-making responsibility’- particularly in cases involving violence and abuse.

Not sure Hayley, seems ALRC makes 3 points made under 3.71: 1. Rename Parental Responsibility to Decision-making Responsibility. 2. Change the law so that judges have to actively decide whether parents share responsibility. 3. We need help!
-
Yes. I agree. Looking at it, it’s unclear as to whether there would still be any reference to ‘parental responsibility’ after the change. I’ll let you know if I obtain clarification on this. In any case, still in discussion phase :)
-
The ALRC has proposed replacing the term parental responsibility with decision-making responsibility as this term is more accurate and more easily understood. Better terminology should help clarify that responsibility for decisions is separate from time spent with the child.

Thanks
@AusLawReform, though it should have evident from our tweets that@HayleyFoster82 and I worked this out for ourselves. While I got you on the line, how much do you imagine your proposed "Family Law Commission" is going to cost us? -
We are still working through the costing on the Commission and will have a better idea once its proposed form is firmed up for the final report.

Hi Haley, I hope we can further this discussion and not let it wither on the vine. Let's show the world Twit-heads can be civilised! Now, the ALRC seem to suggest that fewer dads will expect 50/50 custody if the wording of the law is changed in the way indicated. Do you agree?

Largely ineffective response with more bureaucracy & PC guidelines that fail to genuinely take on the self-serving court - which makes work for itself by avoiding timely decisions & delegation. The proposed Commission lacks teeth. We need accountability via choice & competition:
