I'm not an expert on involuntary commitments or how exactly they work but those who have been involuntarily committed are barred from firearms ownership under federal law.
A question for Americans: What are the involuntary committal laws like in your state (or others that you may know about)?
Asking in the context of people reported to authorities as unstable, planning school shootings etc.

I’ll do some reading on it, but I’m wondering if, absent other factors like FBI dropping the ball, the Florida shooter’s interactions w/ law enforcement would have ever led to committment of this type & dealt with as a simple mental health breakdown/ personal crisis.
