Silly and short-sighted, not to mention expensive… can’t believe we voted these people in. To say I am disappointed is such an understatement. #vanpoli

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation has rendered a decision on the future of Stanley Park Drive’s bike lane, voting Monday night to remove the temporary bike lanes. vancouver.citynews.ca/2023/02/13/van

We’re spending $400,000 to REMOVE a bike lane? With $$ coming from “accounts dedicated for permanent cycling infrastructure”? 👀 That is infuriating and irresponsible. I hope can tell us what is being cut in order to fund this. #VanPoli

This is so incredibly stupid and short sighted — Staff estimates removing Stanley Park bike lane will cost $400K that will be paid for through the city’s dedicated budget for permanent cycling infrastructure

The fact that Kiera is speaking out on Dec 6 of all days. A reminder of how colonialism, misogyny, racism and yes, all forms of exploitation (including of non-human beings) are all linked. Absolutely shameful.

This is the best description I have read of the Latin American Mestize identity and its shortcomings. And yes, I’m looking at you, fellow Latines in Canada trying to claim identities you are not entitled to…
Quote Tweet
At the end of the day, Mestize "reclaim your Indigeneity" discourse portrays Indigeneity as a right to be claimed, rather than a set of relationships and obligations to be accepted. This alone renders it not worth taking seriously.

Rejoined the matreon despite inflation because I just rewatched Jennifer’s Body 13? years after watching it in theatres and desperately want to listen to the matreon ep on it. It’s fascinating how dirty we did this movie in 2009. Also want to read ’s book!

I grew up in Mexico during what historians refer to as the “perfect dictatorship” (the country had the same party in power for about 70 years)… all this to say, I know undemocratic practices when I see them. That’s uhm all I’ll say about that. #bcpoli

Jesus Christ Vancouver We really elected a right-leaning Mayor with zero political experience who hangs out with billionaires, is against renter protections, and could not name the two Ministers of Housing or have an actual plan for the crisis. I'm in disbelief.

City: We unanimously declare a climate emergency! We must make change no matter what the cost, the survival of our species depends on it! Community: Can we put in a protected bike la... City: No, we’ll lose parking spots.

Third note related to my first note — just because the car in front of you decided it was safe to go at a stop sign does not mean you don’t also have to stop!! I’ve seen a big uptick of this and let me just say, STOP IT. That’s not how stop signs work!

Second note, the city should really do a better job with signage, but if you see a bunch of cyclists around you, the speed limit is definitely 30 km/h. If you want to go faster get off the bike street, please don’t rev your engine at me while I’m trying to cycle up a hill

Also a quick note to drivers from someone who drives but mostly cycles. Would it kill you to actually stop at stop signs before inching into the intersection to see if it’s safe to go? I can’t begin to tell you terrifying it is when cars barrel into the middle of the road

YES. While we’re at it let’s reduce the speed limit to 30 km/h on all residential streets and physically discourage speeding on bike streets with diverters. #bcpoli

Is it me or are the little flies that swarm on streets pretty bad this summer? So far this week I’ve swallowed about 6 and I’ve managed to spit out about 10 while cycling… bit if a new record 😑
The barriers even on *good* protected bike lanes are designed for the marked speed limit. The almost complete absence of speed enforcement on Vancouver’s roads renders this protection ineffective. We need multiple fixed speed cameras on every bridge before anyone else is killed.
