$1000+ deductibles have become a new norm. And they have severe consequences for ordinary people with chronic or semi-chronic illnesses (cancer, HIV, heart disease, diabetes).https://twitter.com/reedabelson/status/992350069373403136 …

$1000 deductibles have been around for many years. What is new is a $13,500 deductible for the Bronze Affordable Care Act PPO plan in Maryland. Amazingly awful!

That’s the family deductible to be clear. Maximum legal individual deductible is $7350 for 2018.

Looking closer - I see that is the out of network amount per person. You are correct the in network is what you said. I feel better and will require less anti-anxiety therapy.pic.twitter.com/IYoVEGpPJU

A problem still exists that is ever out of network care were needed - the deductible starts from scratch. As in one individual having two separate deductibles. The cost at $20,000 for a $6500/13100 deductible is still outrageous.

I don't get all this '$1000' deductible stuff. People with $1000 deductibles are the lucky ones. What about a $4000, $5000 & $6000 individual deductible? And you don't need to have any of those conditions to be majorly impacted. Make Healthcare Affordable Again!

Both the RAND experiment and analysis of Oregon's Medicaid changes strongly suggest that increased cost sharing affects people/patients even *before* they develop disease.

To wit: "Nir Menachemi, a health policy professor at [IU] who recently published an analysis of high-deductible plans in Health Affairs, said numerous studies show people are more likely to forgo preventive care when they have a high deductible — even if that care is free."
