$35 for 600mg of Ibuprofen! I have a packet of Ibuprofen in front of me that I bought over the counter (in the UK). £0.35 for 16 200mg tablets - that's £0.06 for 600mg. You don't need me to tell you this, but US healthcare costs are crazy.

His “shocking” ER bill $10282 is about the same as my no-subsidy health insurance costs without a single visit a year $9936 (plus $1500 deductible)pic.twitter.com/XbjlU8LQVB
-
That is insane...
-
I think that’s pretty standard. Mines the same and I feel lucky to have it. Had cancer a couple years ago and without insurance we’d be bankrupt.
-
It was only $540 or so last year - we are starting to see adverse selection happen. I will drop it soon
-
Adverse selection?
-
Adverse selection: When the sick keep paying but healthy leave the pool. The healthy (and typically men in my experience) will risk it. Then if they do have health needs, jump back in the pool at the next enrollment. Premiums go into a death spiral and insurers leave the market.
-
Thanks. Amazing anyone will rick it nowadays. Being healthy doesn’t mean you can’t catch a big. One bout of flu could cost you thousands. A car accident or bad fall could bankrupt you.
-
Bloomberg is doing a study on those who will Risk it, they'll follow them for a year. I think you can find a post yesterday here

We need Medicare For All STAT. We don’t need more bombs and guns but we do need universal coverage with an emphasis on mental health. BTW, why is a single Ibuprofen twice as expensive as a UA?

What is crazy is that self pay is based upon 100%of charges but we never get that for insured patients. It's always less.

It is utterly nonsensical that any employer, especially a hospital, force new employees to wait for open enrollment for coverage. There is no conceivable reason for them not to offer it in full on day 1 of employment or, if there is a need to batch process, once a month.

Health insurance through employment is a great perk & many don’t care because “we’re covered”... until they are booted out, or an accident or death. Everyone should want to see a better system. Seems like go fund me is the current fallback.
-
Health insurance through employment is a fast-diminishing benefit but the prevailing forces keep all the talk on the uninsured while the vast % of Emericans are underinsured and get zero representation.
