There is a critique of this in @guardian herehttps://www.theguardian.com/science/brain-flapping/2018/jan/08/is-everything-johann-hari-knows-about-depression-wrong-lost-connections …

Looking at
#depression from another perspective, it’s a perfectly legitimate and logical way of your brain telling you that something is wrong with the way you are living your life: rather than treat the clever brain for doing its job, find & treat the cause! You become a Pearl!Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

This is not new. Sociological and anthropological analyses of mental health have been making this point for 50 years or more. It’s new within the narrow confines of a biomedical worldview perhaps.

This is disappointing. From what I have seen most in the field say Hari distorts evidence or doesn't back up his claims. Many debunks of his book/articles about.

Plus not sure if you are aware of his reputation this side of the Atlantic

There’s a whole fabulous book and theory on this topic by
@LFeldmanBarrett: How Emotions are Constructed -
Thanks Ashwani! The title is "How Emotions are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain."https://lisafeldmanbarrett.com/books/how-emotions-are-made/?QXBQE51Yu7 …

As someone who designed and architected microprocessors - the brains of the modern computer -for 30 years, I was absolutely riveted by your book/theory. BTW, history based prediction has been common in microprocessors since the 90s!

I hesitate to say this but you should look into Hari’s past before endorsing this plagiarist and cherry-picker of evidence. His reputation as a reporter is trash in the UK. Disappointing
@voxdotcom gave him a platform. -
We have always known that social / environmental factors contribute to depression. Just read any basic psychology textbook. "Chemical imbalance" is just an anti-psychiatry straw man of modern clinical psychiatry, confusing advertisements with science.http://slatestarcodex.com/2015/04/05/chemical-imbalance/ …

Johann Hari is a British journalist who was involved in a plagiarism scandal some years ago. He's not a qualified clinician. I advise people with depression to check
@StuartJRitchie's criticisms of Hari's work before considering any changes to their current course of treatment.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
