Different systems for different people is a crucial point. I experience this daily when caring for patients. One example: a patient asks how much their MRI will cost. My answer: “It’s a different amount for each person.” It’s devastating that I can’t answer this question easily.

I enjoyed this article (and 'Being Mortal') very much, but I do wonder: have you ever interviewed someone who fraudulently collected disability payments? I've heard this story about neighbors who are healthy/never worked a day in their lives... but I've never met one.
-
I'm skeptical that these 'neighbors' really exist, for the most part. A big part of this divide is resentment over what poorer classes are 'getting away with.'

Did you by chance ask any of the people who were upset that their neighbors seemed to fraudulently be on disability if they had considered reporting them? Or would have seen as cooperating with the government or breaking some code or community “rule”?

This piece hits home. At the hospital dad is at, we could get rooms with personal gardens and butlers. It's indecent :/

Health care is a right, it is in the Constitution and there are a couple of major pieces of legislation that affirm that right.
