@Atul_Gawande you do realize what is keeping him from Health Care is his own decision-making. He can leave any time

Yes. You're right. Assange is a fugitive, not a refugee. In health care we aim to treat regardless of status--and not call the police on our patients unless they are a danger to others. But that doesn't mean we owe fugitives protection from the consequences of their actions.
-
He could go to a hospital. I do not believe the doctors or nurses would call the police. To equate him with a refugee is wrong
-
He has been given refugee status by Ecuador and the UN. Not equating. Actual
-
Assange resides in Ecuadorean territory. If he’s unhappy with the care he’s receiving, he can: a) make his grievances known to the Ecuadorean government which he believes is failing him b) Leave
-
He didn't enter that building because of crimes against the state, but dodging sex crimes allegations. Do you provide that kind of attentive care at the local prison?
-
Those were BS false charges and were dropped by the Swedish government last May.
-
Wrong. The warrant was dropped because as a fugitive, he evaded getting served. Should he return to Sweden before the statute of limitations, it could be resumed. But if he believes he’s a free man, he can just open the front door, walk out and take a train to Sweden.pic.twitter.com/7Onef6I9nq

Assange isn't a fugitive, he is a sexual predator hiding from the law.
-
If he walks out he will spend the rest of his life in a US Supermax.https://youtu.be/zYTxuW2vmzk
-
You keep saying this like it matters.
-
I'm agreeing with you. I can't understand why anyone would care. There's enough to worry about without him in the mix Don't understand why anyone would give a darn
-
Og youre worried about WikiLeaks, it could survive on it's own without assange. Anonymous and other channels existed before him and they can exist without him. As far as I know he hasn't done anything particularly useful than be a figurehead and mouthpiece.
-
Also, he's not a figurehead, he founded it, write the code, edited the web-site, solicited the leaks, had the balls to publish them etc etc. I agree he doesn't seem like an especially likable person.
-
He was so scared of possibly dying or being miserable in jail even tho he already made himself so miserable by locking himself up in an embassy and is now probably on the verge of dying right now to illness. Whatever happens, he did it to himself.
-
What boggles my mind reading all this is how trump's minions LOVED th filth assange put out that favored their idol and brought our poor nation to this nightmare. Assange..who like someone here says owes no allegiance to our U.S.

I must say that I resent the entire premise of this article. Assange is not being confined to the Ecuadorean embassy. He has sought and was granted asylum in order to avoid arrest on a variety of charges. Only his continued effort to avoid justice keeps him confined.
-
Ecuador approved
@JulianAssange’s asylum application, agreeing his fears of persecution are well-founded. UN did the same (http://ohchr.org/Documents/Issu …). Those decisions are for governments. We focus on right to healthcare -
He actually was granted Ecudorian citizenship recently. So he can get his govt to cover him.

I have a ton of respect for you,
@atul_gawande, but this take is B.S. He's not a prisoner. Competent adults can refuse to go to the hospital for any reason they choose, including "I will be arrested on rape charges if I leave this embassy." -
Conspicuously entered the embassy as they were photographed. Oh my. Did they tried fake moustaches and wigs? Poor assange he has a ennui, a malaise... Quick, outrage! Yeah, let's not. He is in a freaking embassy in a nice suit while Pamela Anderson visits him. He can get med care
