Costa Rica is also the only country in the world that doesn't have a standing army. They abolished their army thereby saving money. They use the money for things like healthcare

We can accomplish this today with vouchers. Government gives everyone $75 a month that can only be used for primary care. $250B and you reduce overall healthcare costs by $1T.

Hmm.... The image indicates that Costa Rica life expectancy has steadily increased since the 1970s, yet the health care reform plan appears to have started in 1990s.

Great observation! Both the 1970s and 1990s upwards trends have been linked to
#PHC. Dr. Bixby conducted studies to show improvements in#PHC (both in 1972 & 1994) were directly responsible for major decreases in mortality. The full report can be found at: http://bit.ly/2n3BW1N -
Thanks for the link. I will be reading it with great interest.

@misterchambo is this something you and your group would support? -
Absolutely, Don! Anything we can get behind to reduce the cost of care, we will. Regardless of insurance status, folks deserve transparent and competitive pricing.

Costa Rica has higher life expectancy than the US? Access to primary care makes sense, but could it be low stress levels too :-) i mean what’s not to enjoy there

Costa Rica has a GDP/person of $11,800, less than a quarter of the in the US.
-
That doesn't matter so much unless the quality of life is significantly worse. These nations prefer to have a safety net of healthcare/education - even if that means less money in pocket

Stress causes us to over eat, smoke, drink excessively. These are major determinants to healthcare outcome. Even if healthcare was free in this country, people would find something to complain about and they would have less incentive to take care of their own bodies.

Costa Rica also runs their electric system with 100% renewable energy. A lot to admire.

US has most expensive healthcare system with some of worst outcomes. Shocking state of affairs. Our life expectancy is 85+ but there is inequality of access that we need to address and will do so thru our Partnership of Purpose focused on outcomes.
